Like many of you I am busy with family, work and commitments. Many of my commitments are related to mine and my kids sports. All three of my kids play a high level of competitive sports either hockey, football, track or all 3.
My eldest son, Jaiden is playing football for U of T and is considered an elite athlete.
As a nutritionist and personal trainer for the last 20 years, I have developed a sports nutrition diet for my 3 sons.www.iovw.ca
It is not an accident Jaiden is an elite athlete who understands the importance of fueling his body with real food and training specifically for his sport.
His younger brothers are following his foot steps at a quicker pace.
He and his brothers to date, have not needed any antibiotics. The younger two who are now 10 and 9 have not even had an ear infection, virtually unheard of. How, because from birth they have been following a carefully crafted nutritional program designed to give them optimal health.
How does a busy mother keep fueling their athlete when many of us are taxiing them to arenas, football fields in the same day, weekend tournaments, hours in the car, heading to an 1.1/2 practice right after school, well many
sadly cannot. Especially when right after practice the first thing your athlete sees the pizza stand or the gatorade in the vending machine and beg you for it. Many times, parents find it easier to feed them the pizza or let them drink gatorade. When you are a kid there is a time for fast food pizza, but don't rely on it for refueling your athlete!
Achieving an elite athletic level requires passion from the athlete and commitment from the parent to get them there, nutrition is a huge factor in the equation as well as training for their sport.
I believe all of us parents want to do what is right for our athletes, however hectic schedules, lack of energy, convenient fast food chains everywhere, fancy marketing campaigns with misleading food facts and labeling make it very challenging to stay committed to real food nutritional plan for our kids.
I can help, it is what I do, 20 years and counting, ask anytime.www.iovw.ca
